Reflection on Teaching & Diving

It’s a week before the start of our three-week winter holiday. Anticipation is in the air. I know the feeling well: an intense desire to break from the school routine and travel, whether to some place exotic, or familiar, like home. We’re all looking to unplug and wind down for a time.

Funny. I’m not feeling this way this year. I have no desire to rush off to an airport. Diving has afforded regular visits to immensely interesting and exotic underwater locales.

It’s a diving year: 25 dives logged, aiming for 100 by June; three courses completed, four to go; terrific dive partners and friends through the Nautilus Dive Center in N’Gor; five deep dives, below 30 m, the deepest to 40.5 m (133 ft).

Teaching is consuming: schools ask for all that we have, and all that we are. Maintaining boundaries is necessary, and diving has made this easy. School has no voice at 35 m.

Thus the many recent underwater photos uploaded to Lariam.

The absence of commentaries this year reflect less available time and energy, and the need for more frequent naps.

I’d add more, but I have a dive coming up.
