First Week of School1: Shoe Scramble & Lap-Sit

In the first days of school we focus on community building. Here you see students participating in two group activities: the shoe scramble (all shoes are taken off and tossed into the center where they are mixed up; students randomly select two shoes, place them on, then locate their respective matching shoes) and the lap sit (students collaborate to create a self-supporting, circular structure by sitting on each other's knees simultaneously; think dominos falling if not well timed).

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (ISD)

There is no Home Depot, Cosco, Office Max or Office Depot here in Senegal, so ISD places large school orders through suppliers in the States, and all of it is shipped in by container. As happens in international shipping, the container sat at the docks awaiting release and delivery, while we prepared for the start of the school year.

All of us came in on the Saturday before the first day of school to receive the container, unload and inventory a mountain of boxes, and distribute them all to the appropriate classrooms, as seen in the photos above.

Another rainy season, and another set of storms launched into the Atlantic toward the Caribbean. This particular storm was a doozy, causing flooding around school, as you'll see from the video clip.

A new apartment and a new school year.

Two ISDers, Margaret and her brother Michael (grades 6 and 7 respectively), agree to pose for me in the Club Atlantique pool so I can try out the new camera/underwater housing combination.
