The Geology Project Symposium was the culminating activity in a 5-week project in which students were to research a geology-related topic of personal interest, and summarize their findings with respect to a small set of central questions.

The Symposium was held in the evening, and attended by friends, family, former teachers, and other ISD staff. It was a formal affair, organized conference-style with student presentations scheduled by time and room.

We debriefed the experience the following day. I asked: What might you do differently the next time you're assigned a long-term project of this kind? Would you suggest that the incoming sixth graders do a similar project next year? Mrs. Scoggin's is planning a big history project in the spring; how would you recommend that be organized?
