Randi and I met Tim and the girls at the airport on the evening of the 30th. Our hope was to welcome them, make them comfortable, and ease them into life in West Africa.

After sleeping-in the next morning, we introduced the them to our Senegalese friend Almamy Badiane, and taxied to his home in the neighborhood of Fass, accompanied by our house guest, cyclist Peter Gostelow. We walked from Fass into Medina, toured Marche Tilene (a typical African market sans tourists), and wandered through the so-called Medina Fetish Market, where you can purchase the raw ingredients for your talismen, charms, and ju-ju-laced fetishes.

The congested, sensation/impression-saturated streets of Dakar are exhausting, even for the well-rested locals. After a brief refueling stop, we limped home, compiled and uploaded photographs (the Jensens are carrying four cameras, thus four visual perspectives), and enjoyed a very pleasant dinner.
