Ceremony for Mame Ndiare, the Protector Jinn of Yoff Village 1

I will offer only a brief comment here, and refer interested readers to a longer blog entry regarding the nature of jinn, and Mame N’Diare.

Mame N’Diare is the protector jinn of the Republic of Yoff. Recall that Yoff was first settled by the Lebou people almost 500 years ago. Mame N’Diare has served a very important role in the community during that time, helping Yoff to flourish and prosper.

Almamy and I attended the first of the 8-day ceremony, celebrating both Mame N’Diare and the independence of Yoff from the Kingdom of Cayor in the 18 century.
